Cheryl Walker Elected to Chair UM Board of Curators, Bo Fraser Elected Vice Chair

Cheryl Walker of St. Louis was unanimously elected Thursday to a one-year term as Chair of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Board of Curators. During the Board's meeting in Kansas City, Bo Fraser of Columbia was unanimously elected Vice Chair of the governing board for the four-campus 911±¬ÁÏÍø System.

The one-year leadership terms for Curators Walker and Fraser begin January 1, 2008. Curator Walker, who has served for the last year as the Board's Vice Chair, succeeds Chairman Don Walsworth of Marceline, who remains as a member of the Board.

Curator Walker has chaired the Finance and Human Resources Committee and the Physical Facilities and Management Services Committee. She represents Missouri's First Congressional District. Among Curator Walker's priorities for the Board of Curators will be successful completion of the presidential search.

"The Board of Curators will continue to work diligently toward finding an outstanding leader for the 911±¬ÁÏÍø," Curator Walker said. "We have high expectations and want to entrust the care of Missouri's premier research and land-grant University to a proven leader."

Board of Curators Chair-Elect Cheryl Walker received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the 911±¬ÁÏÍø-Rolla and a law degree from Washington University. She is President and General Counsel of Obasi Enterprises LLC. She also has served as counsel in the St. Louis office of Bryan Cave LLP, an 850-attorney international law firm specializing in commercial law, as well as Deutsche Financial Services Corp., now GE Distribution Finance.

Curator Walker is a member of the Tower Grove Park Board of Commissioners. She also is a member of the boards of The Newberry Group, St. Louis Social Ventures Partners and The United Way of Greater St. Louis.

Board of Curators Vice Chair-Elect Bo Fraser received his bachelor's degree in business from Benedictine College and is a graduate of the Southwestern School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He is Chairman of the Board of Boone County National Bank in Columbia and previously served as the bank's chairman and CEO for more than 20 years. Fraser serves on the Board of Directors for Benedictine College and is a founding member of the Community Development Cooperative, which was formed to address housing issues in the Columbia area.
